$50 million âtropical resortâ hotel coming to OWA in Foley
A $50 million resort hotel with a tropical theme is slated to be the next addition to the OWA entertainment district in Foley.
Announced Thursday by the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, which owns and operates OWA, the new resort-style hotel is still in the planning stages, but expected to open in May 2025.
“We are very excited to add this tropical inspired resort hotel to our portfolio,” said Cody Williamson, President/CEO of Creek Indian Enterprises Development Authority.
“This new hotel will give guests another option to relax in Coastal Alabama, while still enjoying all the fun amenities that OWA has to offer. We continue to focus on these types of investment projects, which enable us to remain a strong economic partner for the local tourism industry and State of Alabama.”
Architects Dale Partners of Jackson, Miss., are designing the new resort, while Rabren General Contractors will handle construction once it begins.
Current plans for the resort include tropical-themed guest rooms, including a kitchenette and workspace. For families in need of more sleeping space, there will be rooms with optional bunk bed spaces.
The as-yet unnamed resort will also feature an outdoor pool with bar & grill; a 24-hour fitness center; a lounge; convenience store; and arcade, as well as meeting spaces. Complimentary valet service, WiFi and breakfast will also be offered.
Once complete, the new resort will join the Marriott TownePlace Suites as lodging options available at OWA.
OWA (pronounced oh-wah, meaning “big water” in Creek Indian language) is a 520-acre family entertainment destination which first opened in 2017. It features numerous attractions, dining options and live entertainment, as well as the Tropic Falls Water Park and the Tropic Hideaway RV Park.
The new hotel, along with the recent $70 million expansion of the water park, will bring the Poarch Band of Creek Indians investment into OWA to $414 million.
